Average size:  24-42 inches; Record 62.5 inches.  Young are 7.5-10.5 

inches at birth.

Range:  Throughout Florida.  

Diet:  Live or dead fish, frogs, and aquatic invertebrates.

Status:  Common

Can be found in nearly all freshwater habitats, preferring the shallow waters of swamps, marshes, ponds, lakes, streams, and rivers.  This snake is often mistaken for the venomous Water Moccasin (Eastern Cottonmouth)
