Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis
  • Average size:  20-28 inches; Record 48.75 inches.  Young are 5-9 inches
    at birth.
  • Range:  Throughout Florida.
  • Diet:  Frogs, toads, lizards, fish, salamanders and earthworms.
  • Status:  Common
  • Often kept as pets.  Occasionally will bite.  Garter snakes have a
    variety of color patterns.
